E-mail Print PDF

Dalin Modican was chosen by Pan Handle Coaches and Media to represent Franklin County in the Freedom Classic All-Star game on April 16, 2011 in Panama City.  He would end up being part of an East team that set the record for most points ever in the game as well as getting a big win.  Coach Michael Grady of Bay High School would be on the sidelines for the East and decided to use Modican as a point guard.  While running the point and playing very well Modican also got 6 points of his own in the victory.

Coach Bloom Visits Australia for Coaching and Educational Study

E-mail Print PDF

After over 40 hours of flights and airports Manny Bloom, Head Boy's Basketball Coach at Franklin County, was finally "Down Under" in Australia.  This trip was put together but Five Star Basketball Camp and owner Leigh Klein.  In just 10 short days overseas Coach Bloom would accomplish as much as possible dealing with Education as well as coaching the game of basketball.  Less than 24 hours after getting there the first day of a 5 day basketball camp was ready to start.  Coach Bloom started the camp off showing them how to warm-up, stretch, and train their bodies.  Each day of camp would start with Coach Bloom demonstrating different training methods and warming the camp up.  The camp featured 100 players, many of which want and have the potential to come to America to play college ball.  The staff was made up of Coach Bloom and owner Leigh Klein, as well as American coaches Jerry Reynolds (former NBA player) and Levon Barnes.  Former Kansas Jayhawk Adonis Jordan was on staff as he is currently coaching in Australia.  Also, NBL Coach Joey Wright who played for the Texas Longhorns was also on staff along with many other Australian Coaches from around the country.

In addition to working camp Coach Bloom spent the 10 days living with an Australian couple that have been in education their entire lives.  Don is a recently retired Assistant Principal that still serves on many educational boards in Australia and is well known for his study in the field of science.  His wife is currently an elementary school teacher with almost 30 years in the classroom.  Coach Bloom states, "the time with them may have been the most rewarding part of the trip.  It was great to learn how one of the top education systems in the world operates.  Coach Bloom returned to the states with a power point presentation as well as extensive lesson plans and knowledge of the Australian Education System.

Finally, another big event was a coaching clinic that Coach Bloom got to be a featured speaker.  Speaking in front of many club coaches and directors, as well as an NBL Professional Coach, Coach Bloom spoke about Offensive Transition game and how to get directly into your half court offense from transition.  Using top level players as demonstrators Coach Bloom showed the speed of the American game as compared to Australia.

The camp, coaching clinic and educational were a huge success and Coach Bloom and staff have already been invited back in September.  Coach Bloom also did a similar event in England last summer and has been invited back in August of this year as well.

Seahawks Drop Game to Wakulla

E-mail Print PDF

The Lady Seahawks suffered their 4th loss of the season against the neighboring Wakulla War Eagles.  The War Eagles jumped ahead quickly in the first inning with a 3-0 lead with a 3 run homerun by pitcher/freshmen Michael Cooper.  The Lady Seahawks struggled hittng throughout the game, with only 3 hits and one walk.  The hits came from junior Megan Newell, sophomore Chena Segree, and freshmen Gracyn Kirvin.  Morgan Newell got on base with a good at bat and earned a walk.  Defensive standout performances were made by Morgan Newell and Shelby Shiver who pitched outstanding against the well coached Wakulla War Eagles.  Other defensive shout outs go to Chena Segree, with a great over the shoulder catch in left field, robbing a Lady War Eagle of a double.  Two new additions to the Lady Seahawks roster that played well and should be recognized are 8th grader Maddie Newell and 6th garder Scout Segree.  The Lady Seahawks face a district rival Tuesday night at 6pm versus Port St. Joe.  Come out and support your Lady Seahawks!
